Vanguard's Quiet Emerging Technology Strategy

Vanguard, quietly the world's largest manager of mutual funds, has embarked on a partnership with the Stanford's Advanced Financial Technologies Laboratory and Columbia's Data Science Institute as part of its strategy to explore disruptive new technological capabilities.  The Malvern, Pennsylvania firm has established a skunk works team to partner with Academia and Industry to test and build novel new capabilities to serve global investors, based on an augmented Venture Capital approach focusing currently on three realms of technology: data analytics and AI, capital market infrastructure technologies including distributed ledger, and advanced visualization and automation platforms.
